Justin Vali (pen name of Rakotondrasoa) is a virtuoso of the valiha. Made of bamboo, an icon of the Great Island, Valiha is a tubular sitar. Its sound resounds like a mixture of harp, kora and harpsichord. Like an ambassador of Malagasy music, Justin has practically performed on every stage in the world as well as alongside great artists, such as Peter Gabriel. As a prolific artist, he has released new albums and played in collaboration with many other artists like the singer Kate Bush and the Basque accordion player, Kepa Junkera. For this exceptional concert, Justin Vali invited five masters of Madagascar music style. Among those accompanying him will be Régis Gizavo, the master of the Malagasy accordion. Justin Vali is the 2006 recipient of the prestigious Sacem Grand Prix for traditional music.
