Once again, Cape Verde invites us to enjoy an original voice. At the age of 23, Elida Almeida wards off te fate of a difficult childhood the day she released a bright new album bathed in folk melodies, tinged with the rhythms of the island of Santiago: batuque, funana and morna, assisted by the delicate arrangements of the guitar player, Hernani Almeida. Her first album, “Ora doci Ora Margos” (“Mild Moments, Bitter Moments”), responds to the aspirations and dreams of Cape Verdean youth who want to emerge from their isolation and appropriate the world. We are far from the world of Cesaria Evora. Yet the same enchantment operates, borne by the sincerity of the voice and the immediacy of the young singer.
There is blues and joy in her beautiful sweet voice capable of rejoicing its audience. One yields to her sparkling sensuality, to the charm of a promising youth.» (Anne Berthod, Télérama)
